African Leadership Magazine has chosen President Hakainde Hichilema of
Zambia as the best African leader of the year 2022.
Samia Suluhu Hassan of Tanzania was awarded second place for her exceptional efforts to spur Tanzania's growth.
Dr. Julius Maada Bio, president of Sierra Leone, was voted African of the Year. In contrast, Dr.
Ngozi Okonjo Iweala, director general of the World Trade Organization, was voted African Female Leader of the Year in the 11th African Leadership Magazine Persons of the Year - 2022.
The winners emerged with a combined total of over 15,000 votes and over 1 million active online engagements during the voting period as of the poll's conclusion on Friday, December 2, 2022, at midnight Central African Time.
The poll, the premier vote-based award on the continent, received over 12,000 votes on the ALM website and over 3,000 by email. The winners were announced by the magazine's publisher, Dr. Ken Giami, at the group's U.K. headquarters.
