US and Nigeria Conduct Joint Airstrikes Against ISIS in Northwest Nigeria

The United States carried out airstrikes in northwest Nigeria targeting Islamic State-affiliated militants, with support from Nigerian intelligence, officials said. The strikes were aimed at disrupting militant operations in Sokoto State.

Nigeria’s Foreign Minister confirmed that the strikes were coordinated with Nigerian security agencies and approved by the government. Local authorities said no confirmed casualty figures were immediately available.

Analysts note that the region has experienced increased attacks on villages and local government centers, with previous airstrikes by international forces having targeted similar militant groups. The operation is part of ongoing counterterrorism collaboration between the US and West African nations.
