A shocking incident has rocked the community in Lewisville, Texas, where longtime Denton County Commissioner Bobbie J. Mitchell was stabbed by her 23-year-old grandson, Mitchell Blake Reinacher, in an attack that claimed the life of her husband, Fred Mitchell.
THE ATTACK
According to the Lewisville Police Department, officers responded to an assault report around 4 a.m. on April 21 and found Bobbie and Fred suffering from stab wounds. Despite undergoing surgery, Fred was pronounced dead at the hospital, while Bobbie is expected to fully recover.
ARREST AND CHARGES
Mitchell Blake Reinacher was arrested at the scene without incident and faces charges of murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
COMMUNITY REACTION
The city of Lewisville is in shock, with Mayor TJ Gilmore expressing grief and condolences. "The City of Lewisville stands united in rejecting violence and remains committed to justice, peace, and the safety of all who live and serve here," he said.
BOBBIE MITCHELL'S BACKGROUND
As a prominent figure in Texas politics, Bobbie Mitchell served as Lewisville's first Black mayor in 1993 and has been a Denton County Commissioner since 2000. State Rep. Jared Patterson described her as Denton County's "most beloved public servant".
