A woman accused of murdering her husband in Chilanga has made a shocking allegation of rape against a police officer. Maya Masumba Miti claims that she was raped by a male police officer while in handcuffs during transportation from Chilanga Police Station to Musamba for questioning. Miti has filed an application for a writ of habeas corpus ad subjiciendum in the Lusaka High Court, seeking an order to identify the officer through an identification parade. She alleges that the incident occurred in the bush near Chilanga Cement, where the officer took her while she was being transported. According to Miti, she has been detained for over seven months without being charged or appearing in court. During this period, she claims to have been tortured and raped by the officer. Miti is seeking justice and has asked the court to intervene in her case. Miti's ordeal began after her husband, Dr. Francisco Miti, was killed in an armed robbery attack at their home. She was subsequently accused of murder by her husband's relatives and arrested on September 13, 2024. Since then, she has been held in custody without trial. The court has been approached to determine the legality of Miti's detention and to facilitate an identification parade to identify the officer who allegedly raped her.
