Roscommon University Hospital has donated €150,000 worth of reusable medical equipment to Zambia, as part of its commitment to global health equity through the EQUALS initiative.
Strengthening Healthcare in Zambia
The donation includes essential medical equipment aimed at improving healthcare services in rural areas. The EQUALS project, established by the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland and the HSE, focuses on reducing global health inequalities by partnering with local health services in low-income countries.
Hospital’s Commitment to Global Health
Marie Doorly, Interim Hospital Manager, emphasized the hospital’s dedication to extending care beyond borders, stating: "We are proud to support the EQUALS initiative. This donation reflects our hospital’s commitment to serving both our local community and those in need internationally."
Impact Beyond Zambia
While Zambia remains the primary focus of the EQUALS project, the initiative has also extended support through medical equipment donations to Uganda and Ukraine, strengthening healthcare infrastructure in multiple regions.
Looking Ahead
The donation is expected to enhance patient care and support medical staff in Zambia, reinforcing the importance of international collaboration in healthcare development.
