Choma, Zambia – June 27, 2025
On June 27, 2025, pupils from NIZA Trust School in Choma stepped out of their classrooms and into the high-stakes world of law enforcement during a gripping educational tour at the Zambia Police Training College. Organized by the Community Services Directorate (CSD), the visit immersed young students in real-world policing, aiming to forge stronger ties between the police and the community.
Ms. Changu Maruza, CSD Coordinator, welcomed the pupils on behalf of Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mubita Nawa. In her address, she underscored the critical need for youth involvement in community safety. “These engagements strip away the mystery of police work and build mutual respect,” Ms. Maruza declared, urging pupils to take an active role in public safety efforts.
The tour packed a punch with interactive sessions on community safety, public health, police duties, and rigorous drills. Pupils witnessed the high-pressure operations of the Front Desk, were captivated by a powerful performance from the Zambia Police Brass Band, and observed intense demonstrations by the Driving School and Canine Unit.
Ms. Mpundu Lorain, a teacher from NIZA Trust School, expressed deep appreciation for the police’s hospitality and the eye-opening experience. She highlighted a dramatic shift in the pupils’ views, noting that many, initially wary, left inspired to pursue careers in the Police Service. “This visit has shaken up their understanding of what police officers do,” she said.
The tour not only broadened the pupils’ perspective on law enforcement but also ignited aspirations for future careers in the field. This bold initiative underscores the power of police-community engagement in building trust and ensuring a safer Zambia.
